Weekly Top 30 for March 8th

Hey all! Sorry I have been MIA for the last few weeks. After spending time in Texas, New Orleans and United Arab Emirates I have settled back in Maryland for the time being, though I have some cool announcements to make in the near future!

Onto the Weekly Top 30 though!  Courtney Barnett continues to have a stranglehold on #1 and if you are reading this weekly and plan on checking out the Top 100 of 2015, a good bet for a Top 10 song of the year is definitely "Pedestrian At Best"!  TORRES' new single jumps to number 2 but we'll see if anyone can actually displace the Australian.

New to the top 10 is female pop singer Montgomery. Not much is known about her but her pop hit "Not Around" is wayyy to catchy for words. The buildup of the beat as the song goes from dreamy pop to synth pop is something to behold and the chillwav-ey keyboards in the middle almost sound like Memory Tapes or Neon Indian. Let's hope we hear a whole record from her in 2015.  Also new is Death Cab For Cutie's first single from their 2015 record. This breaks the all female top 10 streak!

Big movers include more ladies of course. LA Singer Zella Day's single "Hypnotic" jumps up 10 spots and nearly cracks the top 10.  Its a tight sounding R&B pop song that may be a little top Top 40 for some tastes but I like it damnit and its a good song to jam to with the windows down on these first warm days of the year. Her album Kicker is out in June.

Finally, new songs to the top 30 include the 3rd single from the Decemberists 2015 albums, Thom Yorke's re-entry after slipping to number 40 last week and a song from Bearson, who is a kickass Norwegian DJ producer.  Check that song out.  its cool.

Til next week or maybe this weekend rather as I try to catch up!

Weekly Top 30 for March 1st

Well kids, it's official, the ladies rule the Top 10!  All 10 songs are sung by females. I don't know if it has ever happened before but its pretty neat in my opinion!

Courtney Barnett is just not giving up the top spot despite a serious charge from Mitski. Purity Ring, Waxahatchee and TORRES are making charges as well, and one song new to the top 10 is poised to be the one eventually knocking off Courtney. "Flood on the Floor" may be Purity Ring's answer to the number 1 song of 2014, Grimes' "Go" as the beat is one you appreciate more and more the louder you play it.

Another big mover is Montgomery. A female (of course) vocalist from who knows where who delivers a pop gem that reminds me of Madonna's best last 1980s tunes. I don't know who she is but she's good. And she has a pretty cool cover of Arcade Fire's "Wake  Up" on Soundcloud.

The only other new entry to the Top 30 is the next single from the New Pornographers, "Fantasy Fool".

Another interesting not is that 22 of the Top 30 have green colors which means they are on their way UP the chart. So it looks to be a logjam up there at some point.

Next week look for new songs from the Decemberists and Interpol and debuts from new artists like Diet Cig, Bearson and Will Butler from the Arcade Fire.

Enjoy the last week of short days!
