Weekly Top 30 June 7th

As we enter June we have the Chemical Brothers locked into the top spot for the 2nd straight week despite the best efforts of Courtney Barnett, Heems and Best Coast trying to knock them off.

Jamie XX ascends into the Top 10 with his sorta solo song "Loud Places".  I say it's only sorta solo because despite it being on his solo record, the song features "guest vocals" by his bandmate Romy. So the song is essentially the XX. It's good.

No huge moves this week but we do have new songs from Baltimore's Future Islands, another Chemical Brothers track, this time featuring Q-Tip on vocals, and a new artist, Hop Along.

Hop Along is a indie folk outfit out of Philadelphia and singer Francis Quinlan is a woman with quite a voice. They are signed to Saddle Creek records and I am thinking we may be hearing a few more songs from them in 2015.

Next week we have a HUGE debut, hint hint.

Weekly Top 30 May 31st

We have reached the end of month 5 of the year and I think we've assembled a decent amount of quality songs so far, and summer songs are upon us!

This week also marks the triumphant return to #1 for the masters and somewhat pioneers of big beat electronic music, The Chemical Brothers. It's been years since they have come out with a song this powerful. "Sometimes I Feel So Deserted" is almost every bit of a Chemical Brothers song you could ask for. Booming sound, buildups, drops and hooks. This may be here a while!

Of course, Australia's Courtney Barnett's new folky "Depreston" may have something to say about that. The lazy song about growing old and moving out of the city is a gem and both the guitar riff and message in the song are something that sticks with you long after listening. It definitely sticks in my head!

Best Coast and TORRES also both slip into the Top 10 and new songs from Mew and Unknown Mortal Orchestra make their debut in the Top 30.

Weekly Top 30 May 24th

Memorial Day weekend is upon and that means summer is officially here! That also means that the Top 30 should start stacking itself up with summer jams ;)

But for now, the big news is that Tame Impala has been dethroned! Waxahatchee has shocked the world (me) and ended up displacing the Australian psych heroes!  This may be short lived as the first of the "summer jams" is sure to have the top spot come the first unofficial Top 30 of the summer comes out next week! The Chemical Brothers' new single "Sometimes I Feel So Deserted" is every bit a classic Chems' song.  It climbs to #3 this week.

New to the Top 10 are the Mountain Goats with a neat little song about Chavo Guerrero and the 4th Purity Ring song to make the Top 10 this year! "Bodyache" may not be the best track on the album but it seems everything PR touches turned to Top 10 these days!

New tracks from Swedish darling Tove Styrke and the venerable Modest Mouse enter the Top 30 alongside a tasty new track from TV on the Radio.

Next week we expect to have more Tame Impala, perhaps some Bully and maybe even the new Ratatat song in the Top 30....

Weekly Top 30 May 17th

The more things change the more they stay the same.....or something like that.  Here's to FIVE weeks of domination by Tame Impala!!!  Songs from last years number 1 artist, Grimes, and other heavyweights like Purity Ring and Death Cab For Cutie couldn't topple the new Australian hit.  As a new group of challengers from Hot Chip to Waxahatchee to Tei Shi move in, it seems maybe TI will never give up the top spot!

Perhaps the biggest challenger lies in the only new song in the Top 10 this week, "Sometimes I Feel So Deserted" by the Chemical Brothers. This song is great and will surely be a number 1 song, very soon.

Best Coast is also moving up the chart with maybe my early "song of the summer" with "Feeling OK".
